Bishop Riesbeck invites all high school aged youth to a youth rally at the Villa Madonna on August 27, 2023, from 2:30 pm – 7:00 pm (including BBQ supper) to wrap up the summer and start off the new school year firmly rooted in Jesus. The theme is Know! Grow! Go! (How can we KNOW Christ? How can we GROW in relationship with Jesus? How can we GO and make disciples of others?) Join young people from across the diocese for an afternoon of faith and fellowship! RSVP is not necessary but helpful to plan for food. Please email [email protected] to let us know if you plan to attend.
You are invited to join a 50-minute Rosary walk around the Cathedral neighbourhood, from 10AM Saturday August 19. This prayer is intended to spread devotion to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, through the Holy Rosary. Food and fellowship will follow at St. Vincent De Paul centre. All are welcome. Please join us! AVE CHRISTUS REX!
On July 26, the liturgical Feast of Saints Anne and Joachim, we remember that a year ago, in July 2022, His Holiness Pope Francis came among us in Canada (his 37th apostolic journey) to undertake what he referred to as a “penitential pilgrimage.” A very important pastoral visit for the Holy Father, which he made in communion with the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops, it marked an important step towards “walking together” in the Church’s relationship with Indigenous Peoples, both in Canada and abroad. Travelling over 8,000 km to reach Canada, Pope Francis then travelled 5,700 km within Canada, with stops in Edmonton, Quebec City, and Iqaluit, where he attended seven events in total.
The Alpha team from Holy Spirit Parish thanks Bishop Riesbeck for promoting Alpha in the diocese. His Alpha testimony video was a very effective invitation tool. We showed it after Sunday Mass at both worship sites. We had 25 people join us and on their evaluation sheet they commented that the video was one of the reasons they came.
