Today, the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) announces the 2023 series of online weekly videos for the liturgical season of Advent. These videos are intended to help the faithful prepare for the celebration of the birth of Our Lord on December 25th, by offering resources and faith formation. Entitled Journey through Advent, the videos are a joint initiative of the Office for Evangelization and Catechesis, the National Liturgy Office and the Office national de liturgie. This year’s reflections will be led by the Most Reverend Jon Hansen, C.Ss.R., Bishop of Mackenzie-Fort Smith and the Most Reverend Alain Faubert, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Montreal. They will help viewers enter into Advent by presenting reflections on the Gospel readings for each Sunday in Advent and providing spiritual and pastoral guidance. As we prepare for the arrival of Christ, it is hoped that Journey through Advent will be a source of spiritual comfort and insightful preparation for all.

La Conférence des évêques catholiques du Canada (CECC) annonce aujourd’hui la mise en ligne de la série 2023 de vidéos hebdomadaires pour le temps liturgique de l’Avent. Ces vidéos ont pour but d’aider les fidèles à se préparer à la célébration de la naissance de Notre Seigneur, le 25 décembre, en leur offrant des ressources et une formation à la foi. Intitulées Cheminer ensemble durant l’Avent, ces vidéos sont une initiative conjointe de l’Office for Evangelization and Catechesis, du National Liturgy Office et de l’Office national de liturgie. Cette année, les réflexions seront animées par Mgr Jon Hansen, C.Ss.R., évêque de Mackenzie-Fort Smith, et Mgr Alain Faubert, évêque auxiliaire à l’archidiocèse de Montréal. Ils aideront ceux et celles qui visionneront les vidéos à entrer dans l’Avent en présentant des réflexions sur les lectures de l’Évangile pour chaque dimanche de l’Avent et en fournissant des conseils spirituels et pastoraux.

This template, titled Praedica Verbum (“Preach the Word”) and developed by the Episcopal Commission for Doctrine, is intended as a resource for pastors, officially mandated pastoral agents, and others in the Church who work with young people. Focusing on what the Church calls “the initial proclamation of the Gospel,” it is intended to provide helpful information on the how and what of evangelization. The template was developed following consultations with numerous Catholic organizations in Canada engaged in the evangelization of young people. Praedica Verbum contains a synthesis of the central themes in the evangelization of young people in the light of the Canadian context today, along with a development of the scriptural and magisterial underpinnings of each of these themes. Four of these themes concern the content of the message proclaimed (or the what of evangelization), whereas 3 themes relate to method (or the how of evangelization).

Ce modèle, intitulé Praedica Verbum (« Proclame la Parole ») et élaboré par la Commission épiscopale pour la doctrine, se veut une ressource pour les pasteurs, les agentes et agents pastoraux officiellement mandatés et tous les autres membres de l’Église qui travaillent auprès des jeunes. Axé sur ce que l’Église appelle « la première annonce de l’Évangile », il vise à fournir des renseignements utiles sur la méthode (comment) et le contenu (quoi) de l’évangélisation. Le modèle a été élaboré à la suite de consultations auprès de nombreux organismes catholiques au Canada engagés dans l’évangélisation des jeunes.

From November 27-29, Bishop Riesbeck will preach a three-day Mission on the theme of "The Great Commission," diving into Jesus' call to "Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations." This Mission will help equip people first to KNOW Jesus, to GROW with him as his disciples and in community with one another, and finally to GO to the peripheries, spreading the Good News to all we meet and inviting people into a life-changing relationship with Jesus and his Church. Evening missions will take place from 7PM-9PM at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Saint John. Each session will begin with Mass, with a Reconciliation service offered on Tuesday and Commissioning and Healing Prayer on Wednesday. Refreshments and fellowship will follow each session.

The episcopal conferences serve as the coordinating entities for the North American region for the Synod, which is themed, For a Synodal Church: Communion, Participation, and Mission. The first session of the Synod will be held at the Vatican on 4-29 October 2023, and the second session is scheduled to be held in October 2024.

“Free to choose whether to migrate or to stay” is the theme chosen by the Holy Father for the 109th World Day of Migrants and Refugees (WDMR), which this year is commemorated on 24 September 2023. In his message, Pope Francis proposes a renewed reflection on a right that has not yet been codified at the international level: the right not to have to migrate or, in other words, the right to be able to remain in one’s own land.

Bishop Riesbeck invites all high school aged youth to a youth rally at the Villa Madonna on August 27, 2023, from 2:30 pm – 7:00 pm (including BBQ supper) to wrap up the summer and start off the new school year firmly rooted in Jesus. The theme is Know! Grow! Go! (How can we KNOW Christ? How can we GROW in relationship with Jesus? How can we GO and make disciples of others?) On July 26, the liturgical Feast of Saints Anne and Joachim, we remember that a year ago, in July 2022, His Holiness Pope Francis came among us in Canada (his 37th apostolic journey) to undertake what he referred to as a “penitential pilgrimage.” A very important pastoral visit for the Holy Father, which he made in communion with the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops, it marked an important step towards “walking together” in the Church’s relationship with Indigenous Peoples, both in Canada and abroad. Travelling over 8,000 km to reach Canada, Pope Francis then travelled 5,700 km within Canada, with stops in Edmonton, Quebec City, and Iqaluit, where he attended seven events in total.

Le 26 juillet, en la fête liturgique des saints Anne et Joachim, nous nous souvenons qu’il y a un an, en juillet 2022, Sa Sainteté le pape François est venu parmi nous au Canada (son 37e voyage apostolique) pour entreprendre ce qu’il a appelé un « pèlerinage pénitentiel ». Cette visite pastorale très importante pour le Saint-Père, effectuée en communion avec la Conférence des évêques catholiques du Canada, a marqué une étape importante en vue de « marcher ensemble » dans les relations de l’Église avec les peuples autochtones, tant au Canada qu’à l’étranger.
